The Sagebrush Pavilion is a mirrored box that constantly informs the visitors of their relationship to the site. It has wooden structure and interiors that continue the relationship and reflection with the natural environment. We used the form of two cubic boxes to contradict the surrounding nature, but allow it to blend seamlessly with the everchanging landscape through its materiality. This was done to reflect the relationship that humans should have with nature. Both the surrounding mountain ranges and vast earth cracks shaped the aperture that connects inner and outer spaces. The aperture not only diffuses natural lighting into the interior spaces, but also guides visitors instinctively through the interior spatial sequence. Before entering the exhibition hall, there is a fifteen-meter path from the parking to let people traverse through the native sagebrush. Once in the exhibition hall, visitors progress through to the meeting space lead by the expanding apertures. In the connected reflection space, the visitors focus is guided towards the lowered glass, that frames only the sagebrush on the ground.
